The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (movie)

last night I saw “the best exotic marigold hotel” film with my parents. I saw the trailer once but didn’t get too aroused. Luckily someone prodded us to go along and see it anyway.

A cool little british film about a group of post-retired elderly people with crappy situations at home, who sign themselves up for an over-marketed “luxury” resort in Jaipur, India. Naturally reality does not live up to its expectations but through all the chaos there are a lot of wonderful moments. A great cast floods the set conjuring up wonderfully complex characters who eventually address a lot of difficult personal issues as they spend time together in an unfamiliar environment. The sentiment seems to be – nothing ever goes as expected, but what happens in its place is it’s own kind of great.

I really enjoyed it, but it could be swayed by my soft spot for India’s magic seeping in the storyline. comment if you’ve seen it.
